As we continue to scour the length and breadth of South Africa and the continent, searching for phenomenal artists doing great work in their spaces, we stumbled upon Obakeng Loeto Keys from Bloemfontein in the Free State, South Africa. And this is what we learned about him.
Chilliechewer- What initially inspired you to pursue a career in music

Obakeng: Music brings us together it's a universal language that translate experience, feelings and ideas into something that can be shared

Chilliechewer- Are there specific themes or messages you aim to convey through your music?

Obakeng: Music is a universal language it has the power to evoke and amplify joy, sadness and love all I want is to create a vivid imagery in the listeners mind

Chilliechewer- Who are your musical influences, and how have they shaped and inspired your style or Are there specific songs or artists that hold special meaning for you?

Obakeng:

Man...they are so many from jazz, gospel to neo soul

But talking about the sound I have now, they made me look / write melody that doesn't only lean on people that have a musical ear but to heal and bring hope joy and happiness to peoples lives.Chilliechewer- Can you share a memorable or defining moment in your journey so far?Obakeng: When my brother texted me in the middle of the night and told me not to give up on my passion for playing, writing music
Chilliechewer- How do collaborations with other artists impact your creative process?
Obakeng: This is a fun one...
I love working with other artists, It make me grow and inspired come out of my comfort zone and see how far they have come and still wake up and continue to do what they love.
Chilliechewer- How do you perceive your growth as an artist over the years?
Obakeng: prayer love and support from friends and family make me grow everyday and make me not give up as an artist
Chilliechewer- How do you view the current state of the music industry, and what changes have you observed and what contribution do u want to make in the industry?
Obakeng: for a change nowadays people are hungry to make their voices heard which is something the world needs.
Lastly the contribution I want to make in the music industry is to continue to minister to the broke hearts and let them know that it's not over yet, the morning is yet to come.
Chilliechewer- Can you share any upcoming projects or ventures you're excited about?
Obakeng: I'm still planning a lot, hosting music concerts to invite and create a platform for upcoming artists to grow and help their voices to reach the world and help their communities
Chilliechewer- Where do you see your musical journey taking you in the next few years?Obakeng: I see my musical journey reaching the world and giving hope to the world and making everyone equal with no differences,
