join us as we chat with a South African afro soul singer-songwriter-guitarist to learn more about her music, creative process, and influences.
Chilliechewer- What initially inspired you to pursue a career in music
Ntshikiwane- My late father is my biggest inspiration. I come from a family of singers so I knew I would somehow end up doing that as a career.
Chilliechewer- Are there specific themes or messages you aim to convey through your music?
Ntshikiwane- My music is about bringing people back to themselves and helping them remember who and what they are. So many times we are taught that our identities are tied to what we do, who we know or what we have. As cliché as it is, everything we are seeking is within. Through my music I intend that people take a break from the chase and be still long enough to reconnect with the deeper part of themselves.

Chilliechewer- Who are your musical influences, and how have they shaped and inspired your style or Are there specific songs or artists that hold special meaning for you?
Ntshikiwane-Three of my biggest influences are Tracy Chapman, Lizz Wright and India Arie. Their music has so much depth and meaning. First time I heard their music, a little something in me shifted. It was like a load was lifted. The more I listened to them the lighter a began feeling. Their music is like a warm hug from a trusted friend. That is exactly the energy and feeling I would love to ignite in the people who come across my music.
Chilliechewer- Can you share a memorable or defining moment in your journey so far?
Ntshikiwane-There are so many, and funny enough they are not related to accolades and accomplishments. It's the many people that have shared with me how my music has touched and inspired them. Those are the defining moments in my career.
Chilliechewer- How do collaborations with other artists impact your creative process?
Ntshikiwane- I've only done one collaboration so far with Baldwin Kay and Mahlatze Vokal. It's something I'd definitely love to explore in the near future.
Chilliechewer- How do you perceive your growth as an artist over the years?
Ntshikiwane- I've found that my growth as an artist has always corresponded with some kind of personal growth unrelated to music. As musicians our lives form a huge part of music creation so it only makes sense that as I evolve and grow as a human being, my music and sound grows and evolves as well.
Chilliechewer- How do you view the current state of the music industry, and what changes have you observed and what contribution do u want to make in the industry?
Ntshikiwane- I think social media has blown the industry wide open and has allowed people to create and share the kind of music they genuinely want to make because there are no gatekeepers to tell them what will and will not sell. Although this opening has created a lot of noise, with hundreds if not thousands of songs being released everyday, it's forcing us to get really creative in order to stand out among the crowd.
Chilliechewer- Can you share any upcoming projects or ventures you're excited about?
Ntshikiwane- I've just recently rebranded and launched my Soul Medicine Music Retreat which is an event that creates a space for people to out into nature and enjoy soul nourishing music and holistic healing activities.

Chilliechewer-Where do you see your musical journey taking you in the next few years?
Ntshikiwane- I have learnt to keep things open ended when it comes to life and I'm applying it to my career. I'm doing what I do best everyday with is compose and sing, and leaving the rest to God, my Ancestors, guides and angels to surprise me. One thing I know is that it's going to be a great and blessed journey.
Chilliechewer- And kindly share with us ur social media platforms where people can interact and get the latest information about you.
Ntshikiwane- I'm on Facebook, YouTube Instagram , TikTok and website under the name 'Ntshikiwane'
